This 7 year-old patient was getting teased at school because of her prominent ears. She was wearing her hair down as much as possible to avoid ridicule. The patient’s mother brought her to see our Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery’s Board Certified Plastic Surgeons for an otoplasty, or ear pinning procedure. Upon examination, the young girl was noted to have a very common presentation with a protruding cup portion of the ear and underdevelopment of one of the folds of the ear. She underwent a short procedure to reshape her ears. The day after surgery, her dressing was removed, and she immediately liked her new appearance. She recovered very quickly, wearing a headband for two weeks at night to protect her new ears.
