Breast Augmentation Incisions Your Breast Augmentation At Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery: Customization is Key

Our surgeons work with patients from Brighton to Toledo, OH and they try to deeply understand their goals and lifestyle. This understanding is critical for creating your unique breast surgery plan, the blueprint for your breast enhancement. Let’s explore some of the areas where we can customize your breast enhancement procedure. Where do we place breast augmentation incisions? You’ve got a few options:

Transaxillary

This incision is located under the armpit. It leaves no visible breast scarring.

Peri-areolar

This incision is made around the areola, the darker skin that surrounds the nipple. A peri-areolar incision will fade into the color transition after healing. This incision is ideal for a small breast lift performed concurrently with breast augmentation.

Inframammary

The most popular breast augmentation incision option is the inframammary incision. This incision is placed in the fold where the breast meets the chest wall. Scarring is concealed in the crease and the surgeon has ideal access to the breast and breast tissues.

Transumbilical

Transumbilical incisions are not frequently used. An incision is placed in the bellybutton and the implant travels under the skin to the breasts. Size and implant types are limited for this incision option, as are placement options.

Wherever your incision is placed, our surgeons use skillful techniques to minimize scarring and hide incisions in natural creases, folds, and transitions.

Breast Implant Size

What do your ideal breasts look like? Super-size or natural-looking with enhancement? Big, small, or in between, Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery is your home for Michigan breast augmentation. We’ll work with you to find a size that meets your aesthetic goals and complements your anatomy. Breast implants are available in many sizes from small to very large. Start thinking about your ideal breasts and clip and picture or two. Our advanced and unique three-point sizing system ensure that your implants are not too big and not too small. We’ll show you in real life your potential results before your surgery.

Breast Implant Profiles

Implant size isn’t the only determinate for breast shape and appearance. The profile of your implants, or the amount that the implant projects off of the chest wall, has a large impact on your breast appearance. The higher the projection (or profile of the implant), the more the implant extends outward.

How does profile work? It all comes down to width and height. Two 400cc breast implants will have a dramatically different shape if the size of the base or width, is different. Lower profile implants are wider in diameter while high profile implants have more projection/height.

breast implant profile infographic

There are four different profiles:

  • Moderate Profile – most natural-looking, wider diameter with lower projection
  • Moderate Plus Profile – our most commonly used profile, creates a natural look with lots of cleavage
  • High Profile – creates an augmented looking breast and is ideal for patients with narrow chests.
  • Ultra-High Profile – highest projection, creates the look of a push-up bra at all times, ideal for women that want to look augmented.

Customizing your profile helps us to achieve your desired shape.

  • Over the pectoral muscle

What Happens During an Ann Arbor Breast Augmentation Surgery?

During the Procedure

On surgery day, check-in while we complete a few last-minute preparations for your procedure. A trained anesthesia provider will administer anesthesia, either local anesthesia or general anesthesia, depending on your needs. Incisions are made into the breast and implants are carefully positioned. If we’re using a saline implant, it will be filled once it is positioned in the breast.

After the Procedure

After your plastic surgeon achieves a beautiful shape, the breast incisions are closed using specialized suturing techniques. You’ll be wrapped in bandaging and sent to recovery. Most patients return home the same day, to comfortably recover at home. We’ll provide detailed recovery instructions as you prepare for your surgery. You may be a candidate for quick flash recovery.
