What Happens During Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery?
A BBL is an outpatient procedure, so you can go home afterward. Our team will take excellent care of you throughout your surgery and recovery.
It’s important to consider anesthesia and facility fees when planning for your Brazilian Butt Lift, as these can significantly impact the overall cost of the procedure. Surgeries performed at our center are generally more cost-effective than those performed in a hospital where such expenses are less controllable.
Fat extraction and transfer happen in the same procedure to ensure your fat cells are healthy and more likely to successfully survive implantation into the buttocks. A BBL typically takes between two to four hours, and can take place under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. A Brazilian butt lift consists of two phases.
- Liposuction: The first step of a BBL is fat extraction via liposuction. We perform power-assisted liposuction using tumescent anesthesia. This specialized technique is less invasive and gentler than traditional liposuction. Your surgeon will typically select an area that will complement your buttocks enhancement – like the hips, waist, or thighs – to extract fat from. Then, they’ll prepare the extracted fat for transfer into the buttocks.
- Fat transfer: Your surgeon will inject the prepared fat into your buttocks to create additional fullness and shape. This is done using the expansion vibration lipofilling technique, where a power-assisted cannula helps to create space and the fat is layered into specific areas to create the size and shape you desire. Care is taken to ensure the fat is always injected in the subcutaneous space (above the muscle) to ensure the highest level of safety. Some fat loss is typical after surgery; our experienced surgeons may inject a little extra fat to account for this and ensure you achieve the desired fullness.
After surgery, you will need someone to drive you home and help you for the first few days.
