Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Interesting fact: I was class president three times.

I trained first in ENT [Ear, Nose, and Throat or Otolaryngology] and fell in love with delicate work like rhinoplasty.

What type of surgical procedure do you specialize in?

I specialize in rhinoplasty surgery because of my dual board certification and training, along with breast surgery and hair restoration.

What is your philosophy at your practice?

The difference is in the details.

Why did you become a plastic surgeon?

I liked seeing small details making a big difference in my surgical results.

What do you like most about being a plastic surgeon?

I have more patients cry out of happiness now than I did when I practiced traditional medicine.

What methods did you employ to accomplish your goal of becoming a successful doctor?

I am obsessive and relentless about learning new things and improving our practice to serve our patients.

I love food, yoga, dogs, and skiing.

I knew that every stitch would count and that my patients would be able to see the results of my hard work every day.

I worked so many hours that I constantly caught colds. I would have to tape Kleenex under my surgical mask and keep working. Now, I have a much more balanced life.

There have been so many. I will learn from anyone. I would always teach the younger surgeons that 'the humble improve.'
